FIRST GIF (BASE COLORING):

first i put a hue/saturation layer which i usually dont do when i start of making a new coloring but,

image

which gives us:

image

which is gross and yellow but that layer is what gives me most of the yellows in the fully finished version ok dont worry itll get better in the next few steps have faith kiddos

next im gonna add a curves layer (set to 100% opacity and fill and set to normal) to brighten things up,

image

which leaves us with something that is now gross and yellow but bright:

image

next is a gradient map,

image

set that to soft light and leave it at 100% opacity and fill and you get:

image

that adds more contrast at least but the next step is selective color (set to 100% opacity and fill and set to normal),

image

image

image

the greens, blues, cyans, magentas, blacks, and whites are left alone and this what our gif looks like now:

image

yaaayyyy orange

next is another hue/saturation layer (set to 100% opacity and fill and set to normal),

image

image

master, cyans, blues, greens, and magentas are left alone and:

image

next is two more selective color layers (both set to 100% opacity and fill and set to normal)

first layer,

image

image

image

the greens, blues, cyans, etc are left alone u know the drill by now

second layer,

image

the rest is left alone again etc etc etc and now we have:

image

things are slightly less yellow and slightly more blue whoo-hoo lets go to the next step which is an exposure layer (set to 100% opacity and fill and set to normal) and yet another fucking selective color layer (also set to 100% and normal),

exposure,

image

selective color,

image

image

blah blah heres what we have:

image

that got rid of some of the contrast by adding the exposure layer but i usually do the exposure layer because like every time i have it in one of my coloring for a gif the gif usually turns out less grainy for me idk lets move on

next is curves layer (set to 27% opacity and 100% fill and set to soft light) and selective color layer (set to 100% opacity and fill and normal)

curves,

image

selective color,

image

image

image

image

and then a vibrance layer (set to 100% and normal),

image

and a gradient map (set to saturation and 9% opacity and 100% fill)

image

image

next is a selective color layer (100% and normal),

image

then a vibrance layer (100% and normal),

image

one last selective coloring layer (100% and normal),

image

and the last layer is a levels layer (set to 100% and normal),

SECOND GIF (ENHANCING COLORS):

image

so let’s put that coloring we just made for the first gif on this gif:

image

which doesnt look bad to me and might be perfectly fine for anyone else but i really wanna bring out the blues and oranges more cause this shot has really good colors in it before its even edited so

basically the coloring we just went through on the first delphine gif, were just gonna think of that as our base coloring.

so go to your layer palette and find the folder of the base coloring,

image

now any additional layers we are gonna make in order to enhance the blues and oranges of this gif is going to under the the group/folder of the base coloring

so im gonna make a new group/folder and title it blue,

image

now open up the blue group/folder and every layer were about to add is going to go in the blue group/folder under the base coloring group/folder

okay so the first layer is gonna be a selective color layer (set to 100% and normal),

image

image

so heres what your layer palette should look like right now:

image

ok? ok and heres our gif now:

image

(omg the gif was over 2mb so i gotta use pictures now ugh sorry)

but anyway as you can see that didnt rly do shit so next were gonna add a hue/saturation layer (100% and normal) and another selective color (100% and normal)

hue/saturation,

image

image

selective color,

image

image

image

and then another selective color (normal and 100%),

image

image

now we have this:

image

then were adding another selective color layer (100% and normal),

image

image

image

and then anOTHER selective color layer (100% and normal),

image

image

and then a color balance (100% and normal),

image

image

the midtones are left alone and were done yay:

image

SECOND GIF (MANIPULATING COLORS):

image

so we know how to enhance certain colors (blue and orange/red) in this shot but say i wanna make this gif purple instead of blue. im gonna have to manipulate the colors by using a lot of selective color, hue/saturation, and color balance layers since there isnt really a lot of purple in the shot to begin with.

so like with the blue coloring we just got done doing in the enhancing colors step above, were gonna put any additional layers below the base coloring folder/group.

so make a new folder/group under the base coloring folder in your layer palette and title it purple, open it up, and were gonna start putting layers in it.

so heres our gif with JUST the base coloring:

image

and to get to purple first were gonna add a selective color layer (100% and normal),

image

and after that heres what we have:

image

(omg we can do gifs again fuck you gif limit) as you can see this takes effect quicker than the blue did in the first step but lets go further

were gonna add a hue/saturation layer (100% and normal), a color balance (100% and normal), and two more selective color layers (both 100% and normal)

hue/saturation,

image

color balance,

image

image

first selective color,

image

image

second selective color,

image

image

and now we have:

image

were almost done, just a few more steps. were gonna add another color balance (100% and normal), hue/saturation (100% and normal), selective color (100% and normal) and a color fill layer (set to 5% opacity and 100% fill and set to saturation)

color balance,

image

image

image

hue/saturation,

image

image

image

selective color,

image

image

image

image

image

color fill layer,

image

and were done we finally climbed this whole fucking mountain heres our gif:

image

okay were actually done bye
